Putnam Creek, Early Spring

It's not procrastiination...I'm just wired this way
…the ice blue water breathes her last cool winter breath into the atmosphere. An air of expectation surrounds the woods. The wind rustles a warning that something is on the way…
I have been at work on this painting for what seems like years. I have had the idea for it circling around in my head on and off for awhile. I actually began the initial block in last year and then applied gesso over the entire canvas and started something entirely different instead. Finally last month it all came together. Luckily, I had several on site sketches as guidance and several very cool early spring days to bring back the initial feelings that had drawn me to this scene. It's funny how sometimes you have to let an idea percolate for a time. As an artist I usually have a couple paintings at various levels of completion in my studio. At the same time I also have a few more in my head while they are being fine tuned. This scattered approach seems to work for me. In the past (pre-full time art) my jobs were all 90% multi-tasking so perhaps I’ve just been programmed this way. Works for me!
