This beautiful barn was originally part of an historic Mohawk Valley estate,

The Danascara Place. It is located in the town of Mohawk, in Montgomery county NY.
It was built by Frederick Vischer (1741-1809) in 1795 replacing an earlier home
built just across the road, which was burned down by British Loyalists
during the American Revolution. Frederick Visher was among the Patriots
who wanted to be free of England. Colonel Vischer's home was burned to the
ground and the Colonel himself was scalped and left for dead. Somehow,
Frederick Vischer managed to survive after being scalped. Histories say Vischer
always wore a silver plate on his head to cover the scar from the scalping knife.
The house that is on the estate is one of the scenes I am working on for a future painting.
